The Global Conference on Sustainable Transport marked an important step in the sustainable development of the implementation of the Agenda for the period up to 2030 and in achieving 17 goals of sustainable development. The Conference also emphasized the importance of sustainable transport in the implementation of the Paris agreement on climate change.
On the sidelines of the Global Conference on Sustainable Transport at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs there had been held the meetings with the Undersecretary-General of the United Nations, Director of the Department for Economic and Social Affairs Mr. Y Hongbo, Director of sustainability and technology department of the International Energy Agency, Mr. Kamel bin Nasser, President of the Arab Framework on secondary working of energy and energy products, Mr. Kamel Assegairi, the Special representative of the European Union (EU) for Central Asia, Mr. Peter Buriyan, Permanent representative of Chile to the UN, Regional representative for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the United Nations Population Fund, Ambassadors of the Slovak Republic, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the Republic of Slovenia, the Kingdom of Sweden, Canada, Norway, the Republic of Finland as well as there were held more than 100 meetings in buildings of other government agencies with the heads of the ministries and departments of Turkmenistan.
During the talks, the sides discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in a wide range of areas, as well as road, rail, aviation, maritime transport. The development of a sustainable transport sector is an important area to address the current problems, which were the result of unsustainable practices.
