On January 24, 2017 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan there was a roundtable meeting with the participation of the representatives of state institutions and the media of Turkmenistan, heads of international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan to discuss the issues of development and improvement of the format of the work of the media.
Heads of the representations of the international organizations were familiarized with the activities of the national media at the moment, as well as their role in the public life of the state. They were also provided with detailed information on the legal basis of the activities of journalists in Turkmenistan. Noting the issues of professional training of Turkmen media, the sides discussed specific projects for their ability to further improve and enhance the effectiveness of the national media; it was also marked by a comprehensive interest in expanding cooperation in the field of journalism.
Speakers at the meeting, the Chargé d'Affaires of the EU L.Frebort, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan E.Panova, Head of the OSCE Centre in Turkmenistan E.Drozd, UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan Sh.Nilofer, a senior political adviser to the UN UNRCCA A. Pupols, director of USAID in Turkmenistan K.Miller expressed interest in further consolidation of the work in this direction and made specific proposals to improve the work of the Turkmen media.
