On February 1-2, 2017 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan the talks were held on the draft Agreement on trade and economic cooperation between the Caspian littoral states.
The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economy and Development of Turkmenistan and the State Enterprise for the Caspian Sea under the President of Turkmenistan. It was attended by the heads, leading specialists and experts of relevant ministries and departments of the countries of the Caspian region.
As emphasized in the course of negotiations, a draft Agreement on trade and economic cooperation between the littoral States, prepared by the Turkmen side, is aimed at strengthening mutually beneficial international trade and economic ties. The initiative to create the document and specific proposals were announced by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in September 2014, at the IV Summit of Heads of the Caspian States which was held in Astrakhan (Russian Federation).
During two days of the work, the sides exchanged views on individual articles of the Agreement. During the discussions, representatives reconciled on some provisions of the draft agreement, taking into account the proposals and comments made at the meeting, and agreed to continue work on the draft.
