On February 2, 2017, in Ashgabat the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov had a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Turkmenistan Mr. Hamid bin Faisal al-Sahli, during of which they exchanged opinions on a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation.
It was particularly noted that during the state visit of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Saudi Arabia in may last year and held in Riyadh meeting with Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud had reached an agreement in principle on the comprehensive development of the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries.
The heads of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan and the diplomatic mission of Saudi Arabia in Ashgabat stated that the outcome of the negotiations and signed documents at the highest state level, create a solid political and legal basis for strengthening the Turkmen-Saudi cooperation in important strategic areas such as energy, transport, Finance and banking and a number of other areas.
