On February 21, 2017, the talks between the Acting Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation S. Lavrov held in Moscow.
During the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation S. Lavrov congratulated the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on nation-wide election as President of the country, noting that on February 12 this year, elections were open, democratic and transparent, which was confirmed by the missions of international observers.
During the talks it was noted that cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation was equal and respectful, meeting the fundamental interests of the two countries.
In particular, it was stated efficiency and effectiveness of the practice of mutual support in international organizations. In this context, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia congratulated the people and Leadership of Turkmenistan with the adoption on 2nd of February, 2017 of the Resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations "On proclamation of the 12th of December as International Day of Neutrality."
During the negotiations, the Plan of joint activities to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries was also approved.
As a result of negotiations, Programme of cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for 2017 was signed.
