On October 27, 2020, a telephone conversation took place between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister of Malaysia Muhyiddin Yassin.
After a mutual greeting, the President of Turkmenistan and the head of the Malaysian Government noted with satisfaction the high level of bilateral relations, initially built on the principles of mutual respect, understanding and trust.
Addressing Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin with gratitude for the attention paid to strengthening the traditionally friendly interstate dialogue, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that Malaysia is one of the priority partners of Turkmenistan in the Asia-Pacific region.
Continuing the conversation, it was noted that our countries are effectively interacting both in a bilateral and multilateral format, within the framework of the United Nations and other authoritative international structures.
One of the main directions of the Turkmen-Malaysian cooperation was the further intensification of trade and economic ties. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov cited interaction in the oil and gas sector as an example of effective joint efforts, where the Malaysian state-owned company “PETRONAS” is a long-standing and reliable partner of Turkmenistan.
At the same time, during the telephone conversation, it was stated that there are also good opportunities for cooperation in the field of information and communication technologies and digitalization of the economy, the introduction of advanced scientific developments into production.
Humanitarian contacts are invariably an integral part of the Turkmen-Malaysian relations. It has accumulated a lot of experience and has a solid potential for deepening fruitful cooperation in the field of education, science and culture, as well as in the field of healthcare.
During the exchange of views on a number of topical issues of regional and global issues, the topic of the coronavirus pandemic was touched upon, causing serious concern to the world community. In this regard, the need to consolidate efforts was emphasized as the most important factor in successfully countering this dangerous threat.
At the end of the telephone conversation, confirming the commitment of Turkmenistan and Malaysia to the course of further comprehensive development of constructive cooperation, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin exchanged best wishes for each other and the peoples of both countries.
