Today, on the 17th of March 2021, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met via videoconferencing with the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Helga Schmid.
During the meeting, the present condition and prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the OSCE were discussed. A constructive exchange of views took place on the implementation of joint tasks based on the three dimensions.
The cooperation on maintaining security in the region, including the fight against terrorism, illegal drug and human trafficking was thoroughly considered. The commitment of the Turkmen side to the development of the OSCE Integral Security Strategy initiated on its part was confirmed.
The parties noted the importance of involving effective means and mechanisms on conflict prevention between the countries. In this regard, the Turkmen side has proposed to consider the application of new political-diplomatic tools, in particular with the use of positive neutrality principles.
In addition, the proposal of Turkmenistan on convening the Regional Conference on Combating Terrorism Financing and Transnational Organized Crime was voiced. The possibilities of collaboration in the field of cybersecurity on the national level were discussed.
The Afghan issues were touched upon. It was stated that Turkmenistan considers the major energy, transport and communication projects as the driving force on the way to overall reestablishment of the friendly neighboring country.
