On August 26, 2016 President of Turkmenistan signed a Decree "On the opening of the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the International Atomic Energy Agency" and the Resolution on the appointment of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Austria (City of Vienna) Silapberdi Ashyrgeldievich Nurberdiev as the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
President of Turkmenistan signed the Resolution on the assignment of the national coordinating body for cooperation between Turkmenistan and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
According to this document the General Directorate of Civil Defense and Rescue Operations of the Ministry of Defense of Turkmenistan mandated to work on the implementation of Turkmenistan's international obligations under the Charter of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
We recall that on March 2, 2015 in Vienna, the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency received a request of the Government of Turkmenistan for membership in the IAEA. After that, on September 14, 2015, Vienna hosted the 59th session of the IAEA General Conference and at this session by unanimous decision adopted a resolution on the adoption of Turkmenistan in the international organization.
Since February 16, 2016, Turkmenistan is a full member of the IAEA.
