On December 7, 2024, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between the Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov and the delegation headed by the Minister of Energy of the Islamic Republic of Iran Abbas Aliabadi.
During the meeting, the current state and prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation based on the principles of good-neighborliness and mutual benefit were discussed.
It was stated that trustful dialog on the highest state level serves as the key factor of development of constructive Turkmen-Iranian ties.
Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran have rich natural resources and a favorable geographical location, which creates favorable opportunities for interaction in the foreign economic sphere, in the electric power, oil and gas, and transport and transit sectors. The sides considered the development of partnership in the energy sphere.
In this regard, the need was noted for developing partnership for optimal use of great resource and economic potential. The important role of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, designed to facilitate the intensification of Turkmen-Iranian cooperation aimed at achieving specific results was underlined.
