The construction of the first phase of an international railway corridor Turkmenistan – Afghanistan completed

On October 30, 2016, the terminating rail link had been laid at the station of Akina (IRA) - in the final place of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan railway line. Construction of the first stage of the Asian international railway corridor - section Atamyrat-Imamnazar (Turkmenistan) - Akina (Afghanistan) is completed. The construction of this railway line was launched on June 5, 2013 with the participation of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

The total length of this segment of transnational route - 88 kilometers, 85 of which runs through the territory of our country, and three more - between border points Imamnazar and Akina.

The ceremony in Akina was attended by the heads of the railway departments of the two countries, as well as railway builders, representatives of media, local authorities. As underlined by the speakers at the ceremony, they expect in Afghanistan a large social and economic impact from the new route.

Basic construction and assembly of the work stations, engineering facilities and supporting infrastructure facilities have been almost finished. On the track of a wide-sleeved Karakum River, near its very origins, domestic builders in cooperation with specialists from the Ukrainian company "Altcom", built two railway bridges in width by 5.8 meters. The length of one of them is 363 meters, and the second - 256 meters.

The railway is intended to become an important link in the international transport, to encourage trade relations between the countries of the region and give a strong impetus to the restoration of the Afghan economy, contribute to the solution of social issues, ensuring employment of the population.
