Representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan took part in the First Central Asia – European Union Interparliamentary Cooperation Forum in Samarkand

On 30-31 March 2026, representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan took part in the First Central Asia – European Union Interparliamentary Cooperation Forum, held in Samarkand.

During the forum, participants discussed pressing contemporary issues and, in particular, held a wide-ranging exchange of views on a number of strategic areas focused on the interests of all humanity and sustainable development.

In his address, the representative of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan noted that UN member states, including the countries of Central Asia and the European Union, consistently support the legal status of Turkmenistan’s neutrality, its role in ensuring universal peace, and its constructive initiatives.

Special emphasis was placed on Turkmenistan's initiative to proclaim 2028 the "Year of International Law." President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, put this initiative forward in his address to the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. It was noted that Turkmenistan consistently advocates for the primacy of international law and the strengthening of the UN’s central role in international affairs.

In addition, representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan took part in the forum’s sessions across three key areas. Within this framework of cooperation, they highlighted the successful programmes and projects being implemented in Turkmenistan aimed at ensuring peace and security, environmental well-being, strengthening the legal foundations of cooperation, establishing and expanding transport corridors, implementing investment projects, ensuring access to energy resources, as well as improving activities in areas such as science, education and tourism.
