On April 9, 2018, political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan were held in Ashgabat. A delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Abdujabar Abduvakhitov arrived in the capital of Turkmenistan to participate in the political consultations.
During the consultations, the current state and prospective directions for the further development of bilateral relations were analyzed. Speaking about the political and diplomatic components of bilateral relations, the sides noted the role of high-level visits. In this connection, the parties underlined the trusting relations between the Presidents of the two countries, which became the key to the successful development of multi-faceted Turkmen-Uzbek cooperation based on mutual respect.
In addition, issues of trade and economic interaction were considered. The parties noted that both countries have the necessary potential for further expansion of relations in this direction. Among the areas of mutual interest the sides noted the spheres of transport and engineering, agriculture and water management, electric power, oil and gas.
Discussing topical issues of ensuring security, peace and stability in the region, the sides discussed ways to intensify cooperation in the field of combating international terrorism, illicit drug trafficking and joint efforts in the reconstruction of Afghanistan.
Noting the high level of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, the parties expressed interest in developing cooperation between the regions of the two countries, also taking into account the holding of mutual cultural events.
