On August 23-24, 2018, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbai Jeenbekov had made state visit to Turkmenistan at the invitation of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. In the course of state visit, there was a meeting between the leader of Turkmenistan and the leader of the Kyrgyz Republic.
During the talks, the leaders of the two States have discussed present state and prospects of Turkmen-Kyrgyz cooperation, as well as exchanged views on current issues of international and regional agenda. The parties paid specific attention to further development of cooperation in politics, diplomacy, transport, energy, trade, industry, culture and humanitarian sphere between Turkmenistan and the Kyrgyz Republic.
The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbai Jeenbekov have signed the Declaration on strategic partnership, strengthening friendship and trust between Turkmenistan and the Kyrgyz Republic at the end of talks.
In addition to that, the following documents were also signed: Memorandum of Understanding between Turkmenistan and the Kyrgyz Republic on main principles of cooperation in transport sector; The Agreement between the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan and the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of the Kyrgyz Republic on cooperation; The Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income; The Agreement on cooperation in trade, economy and humanitarian sphere; The Agreement on cooperation in prevention and elimination of emergency situations; The Agreement on joint cooperation in film production and TV and radio broadcasting; The Agreement between Ashgabat and Bishkek on establishing sister city relation; Program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic on cooperation for 2019-2020; Agreement between the Main Archive department under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and the Central Archive agency under the State Registration Service of the Government of Kyrgyz Republic on cooperation for 2018-2020; Action Plan on achieving bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture within the framework of «Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture and water economy of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Agriculture, food industry and melioration of the Kyrgyz Republic on cooperation in the field of agriculture» signed on August 5, 2015 in Bishkek.
The President of the Kyrgyz Republic went to Kipchak where he paid tribute to the first President of Turkmenistan, laid flowers at Mausoleum and visited Turkmenbashi Ruhy Mosque in the second half of the day. Later, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic attended floral tribute ceremony at the Independence Monument of Turkmenistan and planted tree in the alley of honored guests.
