On May 2, 2024, the International Conference “Magtymguly Fragi – the common heritage of the Turkmen and Uzbek peoples”, dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great Turkmen poet and thinker Magtymguly Fragi, was held in the Union of Writers of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The conference was organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Uzbekistan jointly with the Republican Turkmen Cultural Center in Tashkent and the Writers' Union of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The event was attended by the heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of culture, the Academy of sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Committee on interethnic relations and friendly relations with foreign countries under the Ministry of culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as university teachers and students.
Before the start of the conference, its participants laid flowers at the monuments to Magtymguly Fragi and Alisher Navoi, located in Tashkent, and also got acquainted with the exhibition organized in the building of the Writers' Union of Uzbekistan. The international conference was attended by the Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO Ch.Rustemova, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh.Meredov, the Chairman of the Union of writers of the Republic of Uzbekistan S.Saidov, the Chairman of the Committee on interethnic relations and friendly relations with Foreign Countries under the Ministry cultures of the Republic of Uzbekistan R.Kurbanov, Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences B.Abdukhalimov, as well as Chairman of the Republican Turkmen Cultural Center in Tashkent G.Avezdurdyeva.
Speakers during the conference noted that cultural and humanitarian ties between the peoples of the two fraternal countries have reached a qualitatively new level in recent years. At the same time, special attention was paid to the results of scientific research jointly conducted in recent years by scientists of the two countries in the field of studying the creative heritage of Magtymguly Fragi. The attention of the conference participants was drawn to the role of the poetry of Magtymguly Fragi, whose poems have been translated into many foreign languages, in promoting a culture of peace in modern conditions.
As part of the international conference, concerts with the participation of Turkmen and Uzbek artists were organized in the cities of Urgench and Tashkent.
