Turkmenistan Participates in the 36th Meeting of the ECO Regional Planning Council
On May 17, 2026, the 36th meeting of the Regional Planning Council (RPC) of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) took place. The event was held in a hybrid format and will continue until May 20, 2026, under the chairmanship of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Turkmenistan took part in the work of the forum, confirming its commitment to the principles of regional partnership and sustainable development.
The meeting was held under the motto «Revitalizing Regionalism for a Sustainable ECO» and gathered the heads of delegations of the Organization's member states to discuss the progress of the implementation of the decisions of the 35th meeting of the RPC, as well as to approve the Work Programme and Calendar of Events for 2026.
During his speech, the head of the delegation of Turkmenistan outlined the key positions of Turkmenistan on the development of regional cooperation. Among the priorities are: deepening of transport and logistics integration; promotion of energy dialogue; expansion of trade and economic ties; strengthening of humanitarian contacts.
The significance of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport as an important link in transit corridors connecting the regions of Asia and Europe was especially emphasized. The Turkmen side also expressed support for the further development of the «East–West» and «North–South» corridors, the creation of multimodal infrastructure, and the expansion of regional logistics capacities.
In the context of the ecological agenda, the delegation of Turkmenistan noted the importance of diversifying energy supply routes, ensuring reliable and sustainable energy security, as well as introducing modern energy-efficient technologies and principles of «green» development.
The speech also stated the successful holding in Arkadag (April 28–29, 2025) of the First ECO Ministerial Forum on Sustainable Development — a landmark event dedicated to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, the «green» economy, digital transformation, and sustainable transport connectivity.
Turkmenistan expressed support for the work on the Strategic Objectives of Economic Cooperation until 2035 and confirmed its readiness for further active participation in the activities of the ECO, a constructive contribution to the implementation of joint programs and initiatives, as well as to strengthening the role and authority of the Organization on the international stage.
