Meeting with the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan
On 3 June 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, held a meeting with the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, Dmitry Shlapachenko, and the UNDP Resident Representative, Narine Saakyan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed key areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN, as well as the outcomes of the recent visit of the Turkmen delegation to New York to participate in the high-level open debates of the UN Security Council on the topic “Upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and strengthening the international system based on the central role of the United Nations.”
In this context, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan’s participation in the event allowed it to reaffirm its commitment to strengthening the UN’s central role, promoting preventive diplomacy, fostering a culture of dialogue, and upholding the principles of neutrality as important tools for maintaining international peace and security.
It was also noted that during the visit, meetings were held with the UN Secretary-General, the President of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Deputy Secretaries-General, the UNDP Administrator, the Head of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office, as well as foreign policy leaders from several countries including China, Pakistan, Cuba, Azerbaijan, and the USA.
During these meetings, Turkmenistan’s active role in promoting international initiatives, supporting landlocked developing countries, and implementing the Avaza Programme of Action for 2024–2034 and the Avaza Political Declaration was reaffirmed. Initiatives put forward by the President of Turkmenistan during the International Forum dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust (2025), the International Day of Neutrality, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality were also discussed.
